Simple, Modular, Effective.
BioSTORM® is a pre-engineered stormwater treatment system designed to remove trash, sediment, oil and other pollutants from stormwater flows. The unique off-line design consists of a patented StormTEE™ self-cleaning deflector screen and a modular separation/coalescing unit, all housed in readily-available precast concrete tanks. The versatility of the system allows both treatment components to be used separately for different applications, or together to form a complete BioSTORM system. Various sizes are available depending on local site and environmental considerations.

Variable flows, consistent treatment
Whether a light rain, or a heavy storm, BioSTORM’s retention of pollutants remains consistent. The unique design of the system does not rely on velocity of flow/particles to maintain high levels of liquid/solids separation. When the system is sized within proper design capacity, BioSTORM maintains consistently high-level removal of particulates, regardless of surge flows or particle velocities. In the event of heavy stormwater flows beyond design capacity, excess water bypasses BioSTORM assuring full flow of water through the storm sewer. Even while the excess flow is bypassing the system, BioSTORM continues to capture pollutants and treat incoming flow at full design capacity.

Easy maintenance
BioSTORM maintenance is very easy. Simply remove the manhole covers from each tank, insert the vacuum hose and start pumping out the oil floating inside the BioSTORM separation module. Once the oil is removed, pump out the solids from each tank or compartment. When the StormTEE™ deflector screen is used, swiftly raise and lower the internal swab to dislodge any debris that may be stuck to the screen.

Easy to maintain, requires only periodic removal of debris

How Does It Work?

As rainwater washes across impervious surfaces, it picks up various pollutants including sediment, oils, debris and other substances. These pollutants flow into the storm drain and are diverted into the BioSTORM® system.

1. The first stage of BioSTORM utilizes the StormTEE™ deflector screen to separate trash and larger solids from the stormwater flow.

2. Forward flow and smaller solids pass through the StormTEE, continue through the outlet tee and either discharge back into the storm sewer or enter the main treatment chamber containing the BioSTORM’s modular separation unit.

3. The separation module contains coalescing media that acts as a liquid/solids separation barrier and an oil/water separator.

4. Smaller sediment is caught in the media’s honeycomb labyrinth and eventually descends to the bottom of the tank for storage and easy removal.

5. Oils entering the system coalesce (gather together to form larger globules) and rise to the water surface where it remains in the BioSTORM module for storage and easy removal.

6. The clean rainwater is then directed up an outlet baffle and into the effluent pipe for discharge back into the main stormwater network or discharge into the receiving environment.
